Sight Words
Kindergarten has 65 sight words that we work on throughout the year. To help us with this we use a special book. Our Giraffe Book, has our kindergarten sight words arranged by list. As a class, every few weeks we will work on a new list. The goal of our Giraffe books is to keep the student, parents, and teacher on the same page with the words learned and the words that need to be worked on. Each child works through this book at their own pace and will often times be at a different level than other students in our class. When the students have mastered all of the Kindergarten sight words, they have the opportunity to move to the Butterfly book. The Butterfly Book is similar to the Giraffe book but it includes the top 200 Dolch sight words. **The Butterfly book is an enrichment book that helps to review Kindergarten Sight words while practicing other high frequency words they will come across as they grow as readers.
